Héxaxač Red Hawk Artist Gallery

Héxaxač Red Hawk’s works are filled with symbolism and significance to the Ho Chunk Nation. Each illustration tells a story. As an example, his work, Mayača, the wolf, is the Lakota spirit of hunting and warfare. In his words, “When a hunting scout would go to find a bison herd he would take a wolf skin with him. Upon finding the herd he would get on all fours and wear the pelt, the idea being that while bison would run at the sight of a single man they wouldn’t run because of a lone wolf.”
